Status of the Flight of the Boomerang: Cancelled

... or perhaps delayed? Depends on how you look at it.

Phone call done. Short and sweet. Reason... just not the right time, among other things really but there was no need to elaborate.

Then I ended the day with stress levels sky rocketing because of work colleagues who always seem to have trouble containing their panic attacks, infecting everyone. I was really pissed off I have decided not to turn up at work on Monday. Then came the question... should I have progressed with exploring that opportunity back at my ex-employer? This is what stress does to you....

and more. I couldn't shake off the stress that it became the topic over dinner (which I regret now) and by the time I reached home, parked the car at the garage, entered the lift, got off, headed straight to the door and the keys wouldn't work! You've got to be kidding! Come on, it can't not work! I dropped my stuff on the floor, for better stance and proper slotting of the key on the hole. Then, the door opens. Asian lady, in a confused state, asks "Excuse Me?"...

I was breaking into someone else's apartment. Wrong floor. Wrong door. Horror.

On this day:

The Flight of the Boomerang: On time? Delayed? Or cancelled?

It's been 2 years since I was poached by my then direct competitor and now my employer. This week I heard from my now direct competitor and ex-employer. An opportunity to discuss with me, my former boss said. A lunch date was set.

Train of thoughts... What could it be? Why me? They're taking me back? Seriously? Do people even do that... leave for the direct competition then come back? It took me 7 months to accept the offer from the competitor and to go back is almost unthinkable! I was asked then if I'd ever go back. Some even boldly predicted I'd definitely be back in 6 months. I didn't think I would, or at least I wished I wouldn't HAVE to, but with all the diplomacy I could muster, I responded with "never say never".

Fast forward to the day before my 2nd anniversary at current job and I find myself at the restaurant which I've deliberately avoided during business hours; former work colleagues walking past on their way to the gym; well done steak with light and fluffy mashed potato in front of me, and that familiar voice and english accent pitching an idea that I didn't think, or maybe didn't wish, would be possible - a role, bigger and higher, back at their court.

It's exactly the opportunity I'd seriously consider had today been July 2011 as this is when I see myself re-assessing my career direction. Now is just not the right time I thought as I chewed my juicy red meat and with every bite, I reminded myself of how well my employer had looked after me and how there's never been a day that I regretted my choice of jumping ship. I kept these thoughts to myself. I am, after all, entitled to sleep on the proposition. Besides, I am one who always, and I mean always, keep her options open AND I am one who always, and I mean always, have to deliberate on things with her husband whose opinions and arguments matter and are crucial to reaching a decision.

And deliberate we did, quite intensely. Guess I have a phone call to make tomorrow.

On this day:

Timestamped

The first year of the decade completes in 20 days and I've not had one post in this blog??? (I've worked it out and have come to the conclusion that next year is not a new decade, like some people might like to insist, but the second year of the decade.)

Let this post vouch for my existence in twenty-ten when I...

allowed the bank to own me;

became a full licenced driver for the second time;

collected a few more stamps on my passport to see more of America and check what's all the fuss in Bali (one more trip in 3 weeks) ;

realised my dream of becoming a guest at an Australian wedding, not one but two;

saw Cate Blanchett in the flesh (her skin is out of this world!), shopping alongside me at the children's section of Myers, of all places (that should make up for the disappointment of not seeing any celebrity in LA);

actually and finally went to the gym... to ensure my monthly payments were in order.
